Residents in Oldbury have been advised to keep their windows and doors shut as firefighters battle a massive blaze at an industrial estate. Thick smoke has been seen billowing across the area since early this morning.
Fire Breaks Out at Rood End Road Industrial Estate
West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) was called to Rood End Road Industrial Estate at approximately 5:30am on Saturday, May 23. Upon arrival, crews discovered that the entire single-storey factory building, measuring around 40 metres by 30 metres, was engulfed in flames.
Ten fire engines, two hydraulic platforms, and specialist units were deployed to bring the fire under control. A total of 50 firefighters have been involved in the operation, with additional personnel bringing the total number of WMFS staff on scene to over 60.
Specialist Equipment and Ongoing Efforts
Fire crews from Smethwick, West Bromwich, and Handsworth were among the first to respond. They are using hydraulic platforms, aerial drones, and breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze. A WMFS spokesperson said: "This is likely to be a protracted incident and further significant updates will be provided when available."
Public Safety Warning
Local residents are strongly advised to keep windows and doors closed and to avoid the area due to heavy smoke. West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that no injuries have been reported. Avoid the area, where possible whilst @WestMidsFire work to manage the scene. Thankfully there are no patients."
