The Met Office has warned that the weekend will get off to a 'soggy start' with rain expected 'pretty much everywhere' and a 'risk of thunderstorms' for some areas. Almost every region was forecast to receive rain at some point on Saturday, June 6, with some also experiencing unseasonably strong winds.
Rain and Thunderstorms on the Cards
Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin said: 'It will be quite a soggy start, with outbreaks of rain slowly swinging their way across pretty much all areas.' However, he noted that it 'may brighten up at times for parts of the Midlands, Wales and southern England' as the morning progresses.
Deakin also warned of a 'risk of thunderstorms' as a second weather front brought 'heavy showers' later in the day, with Northern Ireland and Wales expected to see the worst of the weather. The south-west of England was predicted to see some drier conditions in the afternoon, but it would remain 'blustery'.
Temperature Predictions
Regarding temperatures, Deakin said they were expected to be close to or slightly below the average for June. Highs of 15C were forecast for Northern Ireland, Wales and the south-west, while the east of England could reach 19C.
BBC Forecast for the Weekend and Beyond
The BBC weather forecast for the weekend and beyond stated: 'Mostly cloudy Saturday with rain continuing to push in from the south-west. Some sunny breaks and isolated thundery showers appearing later in the day, especially in the south. Windy in the south.'
'Sunday will see variable cloud and showers, mainly in the west. These may become heavy at times. Areas further east may remain dry, though variable cloud can still be expected.'
'Monday will see locally heavy rain move in from the west. Sunshine is expected once the rain clears.'
'Tuesday will see a mixture of scattered thundery showers and sunny spells.'
