Eighteen counties in England are set to miss out on the first heatwave of the year, according to weather forecasts. The UK is expected to experience the first summer heatwave with temperatures soaring to 30C over the upcoming three-day bank holiday weekend.
Regions Missing the Heatwave
The late May Bank Holiday will bring rising temperatures and abundant sunshine, marking a shift from the disappointing start to the month. However, not all areas will benefit from the warm weather. Based on data from WX Charts, which uses Met Desk data and advanced modelling systems from ECMWF and GFS, the following counties are likely to escape the heat:

- Norfolk
- Suffolk
- Lincolnshire
- Nottinghamshire
- Derby
- Staffordshire
- Cheshire
- Merseyside
- Greater Manchester

- Cumbria
- Isle of Wight

Weather Forecast Details
An early Met Office forecast for Thursday, May 21, states: "Cloudy with outbreaks of rain across northwestern areas, drier elsewhere with sunny spells developing in the south and slowly spreading north. Feeling warmer, especially in the sunshine in the south."
The outlook for Friday to Sunday, May 22 to May 24, adds: "Very warm over the Bank Holiday weekend with plenty of sunshine and light winds. However, some heavy, thundery showers are possible on Saturday and some rain in the northwest."
Wednesday's Weather
Today, Wednesday, May 20, is expected to be largely cloudy at first, but some brighter spells will develop at times into the afternoon, especially in the south. A few spots of rain are possible where the cloud thickens, mainly over western hills and northern Scotland. It will feel a little warmer.
Tonight's Forecast
Showers will largely ease away this evening, but skies will remain cloudy. Locally heavy rain is expected across northwestern areas later in the night. It will be a mild night under the blanket of cloud.
