Halifax customers warned ahead of October 5 app and online banking closure
Halifax issues October 5 warning as app closure begins

Halifax customers have been issued a warning ahead of October 5, when the bank will begin the gradual closure of its app and online banking platforms as part of the brand's transition to Lloyds Bank. The Halifax mobile app will close permanently on Saturday, October 31.

The first phase of the transition began on July 1, when new customers were no longer able to open new Halifax accounts via the brand’s app or website. The next step starts on Monday, October 5, with the bank—which has branches in Birmingham—beginning to phase out its digital services.

What Halifax has told customers

Halifax said: “There’s no change to your account or policy features and benefits today. Over time, the brand of your Halifax accounts and policies will change to Lloyds. Updates may happen at different times, and we’ll always let you know before anything changes.”

The bank added: “As we’re part of the same family, you can already manage your money using the Halifax, Lloyds or Bank of Scotland apps, online banking and branch.”

In a further statement, Halifax explained: “Over the next few months, we’ll be in touch to move you to the Lloyds app and online banking as we’ll be closing these for Halifax. They work in a similar way so should feel familiar and just as easy to use.”

How the transition will work

Customers will receive an invitation within the app and online banking to guide them through the process. Halifax said: “We’ll send you an invitation in the app and online banking, so you’ll know it’s from us. It’ll guide you through the process in just a few easy steps, with no passwords or memorable details to set up. We’ll also email you around the time the invite will appear, so you don’t miss it.”

Those who already use the Lloyds app or online banking are already set and will be able to see their Halifax accounts there. Customers with Lloyds login details from a business banking account will now also be able to use those credentials with the Lloyds personal app and online banking, and their business accounts will remain separate.

Next steps for Halifax customers

For customers who do not yet have the Lloyds app, it can be downloaded and used at any time. The historic Halifax brand is being axed next year, with all accounts and policies gradually rebranded to Lloyds Bank.
