A driver has died after his vehicle collided with a tree in Smethwick in the early hours of Thursday, June 4. The incident occurred on Oldbury Road at approximately 12:45 AM.
Paramedics discovered the male driver in a critical condition after fire crews extricated him from the wreckage. Medics immediately administered advanced life support, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency response
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson provided details: "We were called to Oldbury Road in Smethwick at 12:46 AM. Upon arrival, ambulance staff found a man who was the driver of a car that had collided with a tree. He was extricated by the fire service."
The spokesperson continued: "Once extricated, he was assessed and was in a critical condition. Ambulance staff quickly began administering advanced life support. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, it became clear that nothing more could be done to save him. He was confirmed deceased at the scene."
Resources deployed
The ambulance service dispatched one ambulance, two paramedic officers, and a MERIT trauma doctor along with a critical care paramedic to the scene. The road was closed for several hours while investigations took place, causing delays for motorists in the area.
This tragic incident adds to a series of recent road accidents in the Black Country region. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, especially during night-time hours. An investigation into the cause of the collision is underway.
