National Highways reported the incident at approximately 7:30 am and later confirmed that accident investigation work was underway. A statement on their website read: "The M50 in Gloucestershire/Worcestershire is closed eastbound between J2 (Ledbury) and J1 (Tewkesbury) following a serious collision involving an overturned car." West Mercia Police are conducting accident investigations.
Diversion route
Road users traveling eastbound are advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol on road signs: exit the M50 northbound at J2, turn right onto the A417, continue to the roundabout with the A40, take the first exit onto the A40, and continue until the M5 J11, then take the first exit onto the M5 northbound. Motorists are urged to allow extra journey time, consider rerouting, or delay travel.
