CEO Eats Same Breakfast and Lunch Daily for 22 Years to Boost Focus
CEO Eats Same Breakfast and Lunch Daily for 22 Years

A businessman attributes his career success to eating the same breakfast and lunch every single day. For more than two decades, Luke Carlson has adhered to this strict morning and midday food schedule to maintain his focus.

The 46-year-old begins each morning with a bowl of porridge and a banana mixed with protein powder and creatine, a natural compound produced in the liver, kidneys, and pancreas, also found in meat and fish, that acts as a rapid energy source for muscles by regenerating adenosine triphosphate (ATP). When lunchtime arrives, he opts for a turkey or chicken sandwich to keep his energy levels steady. This disciplined approach helps Luke manage his busy workload by eliminating the need to think about his next meal. By sticking to these familiar options, he ensures his body receives the correct nutrition without added stress.

Avoiding Decision Fatigue

“It is how I avoid decision fatigue; I dial in on the macro-nutrients that I need while staying in an appropriate calorie range,” he explains. He insists that the repetition never feels dull because he genuinely enjoys the taste and health benefits of his choices. “I look forward to the foods. I like them, and they are nutritious; I can find or pack these foods during travel, and I travel pretty much every week of the year,” says Luke. This method mirrors the habits of famous leaders like Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg, who wore the same outfits to save mental energy.

As the leader of a fitness company, he handles many responsibilities and finds that uniform eating removes a difficult variable from his day. He usually aims for a target between 1,900 and 2,200 calories to stay in peak physical condition, reports Neil Shaw on the Mirror. To keep things slightly fresh, he occasionally swaps his bread for a wrap, while his evening meals offer more culinary freedom with steak or fish. “I have done this since I was 24 and I found a routine that worked well with me. I don't get bored, as I get a little variety.”

Travel Discipline

His travel schedule is intense, and he discovered years ago that snacking during flights led to unwanted weight gain. “I learned about 10 years ago when my travel really ramped up, if I snacked on flights and really indulged at restaurants while on the road, I would gain weight and fat. Being disciplined with my nutrition during business travel is important.” Friends and professional peers have grown accustomed to his specific requirements, even if they occasionally tease him about his lunch. “They all understand my nutrition habits and have been flexible to work around them. They might joke or give me a hard time, but they know I need a sandwich for lunch - always. As do all my coworkers.”

Beyond his diet, he also wears a set ‘uniform’ of specific trousers, a top, and white shoes whenever he has to catch a flight. This total commitment to a routine allows him to pour all his concentration into running his successful business. “Every day for lunch I eat a turkey or chicken sandwich. I will have a small dark skim mocha with no whip, a protein shake and an apple. People close to me understand that these are my non-negotiables - but I don't want to ruin or negatively impact other people's experiences. So, I'm happy to pack my own food or pick restaurants that they would enjoy while I can still find something that meets my needs.”

This strict regimen is what he considers the ultimate fuel for his professional and personal life. “These are not only nutritious options that fuel my day, but the consistency also helps me avoid decision fatigue. I know exactly what I'll have every day. I travel extensively, and I know exactly what my routine will be, overall helping me as a CEO,” he adds.
