Chesterfield Firm Wins King's Award for Innovation

A Chesterfield-based company is celebrating after being honored with a King's Award for Enterprise for Innovation. Phoenix Sealing is one of only 185 organizations nationally to be recognized with this prestigious accolade. Announced on May 6, the award acknowledges the company's outstanding achievement in its field.

Company Background

Founded in 2009, the manufacturer of high-performance industrial seals and gaskets currently employs 28 people at its headquarters. The business was recognized for its CORRIX® Corrosion Control Gasket range, launched in 2025. This range provides a technically innovative solution to the problem of galvanic and crevice corrosion in flanged pipework.

Recognition and Impact

Simon Winfield, managing director of Phoenix Technology Group, said: "Receiving the King's Award for Enterprise: Innovation, is a profound recognition of what our team has achieved, and something everyone at Phoenix Sealing can be enormously proud of." Flange face corrosion is one of the most persistent and costly challenges facing the oil, gas, and process industries. It develops gradually, often unnoticed, at the gasket-flange interface, and if left unaddressed, it leads to leaks, unplanned shutdowns, and expensive repairs.

"We identified a fundamental gap in the market. Traditional graphite-filled gaskets were actively contributing to the problem, accelerating galvanic and crevice corrosion in the very environments where sealing integrity matters most. CORRIX® is our answer to this problem."

Development and Collaboration

The system was developed in collaboration with partners at ALBA Gaskets and is manufactured in Derbyshire. Simon continued: "The results so far are tangible. Our customers are seeing reduced leaks, less unplanned downtime, lower maintenance costs, and safer, more efficient operations. To have our work recognized with the UK's most prestigious business accolade is a huge achievement for Phoenix Sealing."

"This award belongs to every member of our team, every partner who contributed to its development, and every customer who has trusted us with their most critical assets."
