Exeter Science Park Welcomes New Chief Executive Lindsay Lucas

Exeter Science Park has announced the appointment of Lindsay Lucas as its new chief executive, who will lead the organisation through its next phase of development and expansion. Ms Lucas brings over 18 years of experience in the technology sector to this pivotal regional leadership role, which she will officially assume in May.

Strategic Leadership for Growth Phase

In her new position, Lindsay Lucas will collaborate closely with the Exeter Science Park board to manage the organisation's ambitious growth trajectory. The science park is working toward becoming a 3,500-job campus by the late 2030s, representing a significant expansion from its current operations. Ms Lucas was previously head of training and consultancy at digital social enterprise Cosmic, where she served in a deputy chief executive capacity.

The appointment follows a planned succession process, with current chief executive Dr Sally Basker set to retire this summer after leading the organisation since March 2017. Dr Basker's departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the science park, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last year alongside the completion of its initial development phase.

Board Confidence in New Leadership

Dr Eulian Roberts, chair of the Exeter Science Park board of directors, expressed enthusiasm about the new appointment. "We are delighted to welcome Lindsay to lead the organisation as we continue the development of the park," Dr Roberts stated. "Her appointment supports our mission to help science and technology businesses of all sizes start, scale and succeed - driving high-value jobs, productivity and economic growth for the region."

Dr Roberts highlighted Ms Lucas's specific qualifications for the role, noting: "Lindsay brings strategic experience delivering digital transformation, innovation and commercial growth. She has developed partnerships that generate economic impact, and her record of strengthening commercial performance and securing partnership-led investment in innovation will be key to the continued growth and impact of Exeter Science Park."

New CEO's Vision for the Future

Lindsay Lucas shared her perspective on joining the Exeter Science Park at this crucial juncture. "This is an exciting time to be joining Exeter Science Park as it builds on a decade of strong foundations and looks ahead to significant expansion, attracting new investment into the region," she commented.

Ms Lucas elaborated on her aspirations for the role: "I'm delighted to be joining the team and to help shape a thriving, sustainable campus that reflects the South West's STEMM talent, ambition and spirit. I'm looking forward to working with our partners to support our tenants, strengthen our innovation ecosystem and contribute to the region's long-term prosperity."

Current Impact and Future Ambitions

Exeter Science Park serves as a dedicated hub for science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) businesses in the South West region. According to the organisation's latest figures, it currently supports approximately 750 jobs and generates more than £50 million in Gross Value Added (GVA) annually for the regional economy.

The science park's expansion plans represent a substantial commitment to fostering innovation and economic development in the area. With Lindsay Lucas's appointment, the organisation aims to accelerate its growth while maintaining its focus on creating a supportive environment for STEMM businesses to flourish and contribute to regional prosperity.
