Ashington Lighting Firm Raytec Optimistic After Sales Growth

Industrial lighting manufacturer Raytec has expressed strong optimism about its future following a solid increase in turnover. The Ashington-based company, which employs nearly 100 people locally, reports growing global demand for its energy-efficient and low-maintenance LED lighting systems.

Financial Performance

New accounts for the Japanese-owned business, which specializes in lighting for hazardous areas, video surveillance, transport, and heavy industrial applications, reveal that sales climbed 8.3% to £18.7 million, up from £17.3 million in 2025. Operating profits experienced a slight dip from £2.8 million to £2.6 million, while pre-tax profits rose from £3.05 million to £3.2 million. During the year, ordinary dividends of £1.89 million were paid out.

Global Reach and Innovation

Raytec positions itself as a world leader in LED lighting for security and safety, emphasizing smart and connected lighting products underpinned by continuous research and development. The company supplies international markets through a distributor network, a US subsidiary, and direct sales to other manufacturers. Exports account for approximately 67% of sales, with key markets including Europe (52%), the Middle East (6%), the Americas (19%), Oceania (11%), and the Far East (12%). In 2025, the firm expanded its product portfolio through investment, which is expected to boost sales in 2026.

Strategic Acquisition

In November last year, Raytec announced the acquisition of Finnish portable lighting specialist Atexor. The Espoo-based company added 21 staff to Raytec's operations and strengthened its market position. Company leaders stated that the move enhanced research and development capabilities and broadened the support network. Atexor, founded in the early 1980s, supplies products to the oil and gas, petrochemical, and manufacturing sectors and continues to operate as an independent company and brand following the acquisition.
