32,000-Hen Egg Farm Plans Submitted in East Yorkshire
32,000-Hen Egg Farm Plans in East Yorkshire

Proposals for a new egg production facility in Holderness have been lodged with East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The site would be created on land situated to the north west of Buzzards Nest, Burton Pidsea.

Application Details

The application has been put forward on behalf of Cattle Holderness Ltd, which planning documents explain forms part of the broader Buckle Farms operation. Filed papers state the company has "existing operational experience of livestock enterprise", owing to several pig breeding and fishing facilities it operates throughout the region.

The portion of the farm's land earmarked for this application is presently arable land bordered by hedgerows. Nevertheless, should proposals receive approval, the land would be transformed into a site with capacity for 32,000 hens.

Location and Proximity

Documents outline that the nearest settlement to the application site is Burton Pidsea, located 550m south west of the location. Meanwhile, the closest property sits 500m south east.

Facilities and Infrastructure

The proposals encompass an egg production building, an adjoining egg packing and storage facility, four feed bins, and a manure elevator. Hard standings for vehicle parking, alongside a new access track, would also form part of the development.

The principal egg production facility would be constructed using a steel frame, clad in olive green sheeting. Planning documents indicate that the specific shade (RAL 6003) has been deliberately selected to blend in with the surrounding landscape.

Operational Cycle

Birds would be housed on site for 70 weeks, after which they would be replaced with a new flock. Between each cycle, the building would undergo a thorough clean in readiness for the incoming birds.

Sustainability Measures

The site would also be equipped with 100kW solar panels, mounted on the south-facing side of the building, supplying a portion of the development's overall electricity requirements.
