EG On The Move completes acquisition of 260 French sites

EG On The Move, the petrol forecourt and convenience retail group led by Blackburn-based entrepreneur Zuber Issa, has completed the acquisition of 260 sites in France. The deal, which has now cleared all legal, works council and regulatory market requirements, was struck with EG Group, a company planning to exit the French market entirely.

The acquisition is a central component of EG On The Move’s growth strategy. The company has identified France as a key European market, and the newly acquired network is expected to serve as a springboard for further investment, particularly in enhancing the retail and convenience offer across the sites.

Strategic Growth and Market Confidence

“We are delighted to complete the acquisition of these 260 sites,” said Zuber Issa, chief executive officer of EG On The Move. “This is an important step in the continued growth of EG On The Move and reflects our confidence in the strength and long-term potential of the French market.”

Issa added: “France represents a significant opportunity for EG On The Move, and we are committed to investing in the acquired network to enhance the customer offer and experience, support our colleagues and drive long-term sustainable growth. We look forward to working closely with our French team, whose expertise and dedication will be central to our success, and to supporting them in delivering positive outcomes for our customers, employees, partners and local communities.”

France as a Foundation for Investment

The French network is already fully operational, giving the company immediate scale in a market that is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most important for fuel retail and convenience services. With a strong existing customer base, the sites provide a solid platform for EG On The Move to introduce its retail formats and service standards, including expanding food-to-go options and other convenience lines that have proven successful in the UK.

Electric vehicle charging is also a priority. The company has more than 60 sites offering fast EV charging across its UK estate, and the EV On The Move brand is seen as a key growth area. The French sites offer significant potential for deploying similar infrastructure, as many European markets push towards wider EV adoption and stricter emissions regulations.

Building on Recent Momentum

The completion of the French acquisition follows a period of rapid expansion for the group. In May, EG On The Move acquired independent petrol forecourt operator MPK Garages Ltd, adding 27 sites across the Midlands. That deal strengthened the company’s UK presence and contributed to its current total of more than 550 trading units across the country.

EG On The Move now operates 270 petrol forecourts and convenience stores in the UK, along with 220 branded foodservice concessions. Combined with the newly acquired French sites, the company’s full European portfolio now exceeds 800 trading units, positioning it as a major player in the continent’s forecourt and convenience retail sector.

Leadership Vision for the Future

Issa welcomed the incoming French team with warmth. “I would like to warmly welcome our new colleagues to EG On The Move,” he said. “I am excited about the opportunities we will create together as we build on the strong foundations already established across the network.”

The company said the acquisition will allow it to deliver a more comprehensive service to French customers while maintaining the quality standards that have become synonymous with its UK operations. Further investment is planned to enhance the customer experience, support employees and drive sustainable growth in the years ahead.

Financial terms of the transaction have not been publicly disclosed. However, the completion marks one of the most significant expansions in EG On The Move’s history, underlining the company’s commitment to building a truly European network of modern fuel and convenience retail destinations.
