Holmesterne Foods Collapses Into Administration After 40 Years

One of the UK's leading meat suppliers has collapsed into administration after nearly 40 years in business. Holmesterne Farm Co. Limited, which trades under the name Holmesterne Foods, filed for administration on May 11. The company cited an unsustainable financial environment for the shut filing.

James Clark and Howard Smith from Interpath Advisory have been named as joint administrators for the company. James Clark, managing director at Interpath and joint administrator, said: “It is a real shame to see Holmesterne enter administration, particularly after the sale of the business last year and the renewed optimism that followed. Our immediate priority is to support employees through this difficult period, and we will be doing all we can to assist them in the days and weeks ahead.”

The majority of the company's 130 staff will be made redundant. However, a small number will be retained to help with the close-down process. Founded in 1986, the company supplied a range of meat and vegetable products to retailers and manufacturers. It was sold to Leeds-based Troy Foods in July 2025 and also operated two manufacturing plants in North Yorkshire. However, it suffered from financial losses and increased ingredient, packaging and factory costs across 2025.
