Southport Business Park to Undergo Major Transformation
A long-vacant site in Southport is poised for a significant economic revival, with plans unveiled for the complete redevelopment of Southport Business Park. The project, led by local family business EFT Group Ltd, promises to inject new life into the area by creating job opportunities, apprenticeships, and fostering economic growth, according to Sefton Council.
Council Support and Lease Agreement
With backing from the council's Business and Regeneration team, EFT Group is set to move to the disused business park. The council has granted a 999-year lease on plots F, G, and H, marking a crucial step forward. The next phase involves stringent planning processes, which are already underway, ensuring the project meets all regulatory standards.
EFT Group's Commitment to Southport
EFT Group, which specializes in life safety, security, and construction services, has experienced substantial growth in recent years. The company is dedicated to remaining in Southport, where it employs a large local workforce and supports apprenticeship schemes in schools. This move underscores their long-term investment in the community.
Overcoming Past Challenges
Southport Business Park has remained undeveloped for over a decade due to challenging ground conditions and a lack of government funding. Recently, Cllr Marion Atkinson, leader of Sefton Council, joined company directors Adam Watts and Stewart Meechan to unveil the new EFT Global headquarters, highlighting the project's importance.
Cllr Atkinson stated: "This move represents yet another major step forward for Southport's economic future. We commend our officers for working with EFT Group to reach this vital stage. Not only will we retain a thriving local business, but we'll also revitalize a site that has been underused for too long."
She added that the investment will create high-quality jobs, support apprenticeships, and demonstrate the council's commitment to homegrown businesses, ultimately strengthening the economic recovery of Southport and Sefton.
Business and Community Impact
Jordan Duggan, co-director of EFT Group, emphasized the company's roots in Southport, saying: "As a local family company, we are proud of our heritage. This development reflects our commitment to the area and our belief in its future. With this investment, we are establishing a lasting base for our business, employees, and the next generation of workers in Sefton."
The company looks forward to collaborating with stakeholders, the local authority, and the community as the project advances. The proposal will now be reviewed at a future meeting of Sefton Council's independent Planning Committee, where further details will be debated.
This initiative is expected to not only boost local employment but also enhance the overall economic landscape of Southport, making it a more attractive location for businesses and residents alike.
