NS&I has published the August 2026 Premium Bonds results, and Birmingham has emerged as a notable hotspot for big winners. According to the savings body, savers in the Birmingham area landed 14 prizes of £10,000 or more in the monthly draw, with the largest local payout being £100,000.
Birmingham's 14 big prizes in the August Premium Bonds draw
The top local winner holds bond number 613NQ946610, which secured a £100,000 prize. That saver bought £50,000 of Bonds in February 2025 – the maximum permitted holding – and still held that full amount when the August draw took place. A further three bondholders in Birmingham each won £50,000, and three more took home £25,000 prizes. Seven additional savers matched a £10,000 prize.

West Midlands savers also landed sizeable wins
If your Premium Bonds are registered to the wider West Midlands area rather than Birmingham specifically, you may also be in luck. NS&I confirmed 19 prizes of £10,000 or more for the West Midlands region in August. These included three £50,000 wins, one £25,000 win, and 15 prizes of £10,000.
The West Midlands winners with bond numbers of £25,000 or more were:

In addition, 15 bondholders from the West Midlands won £10,000 each. Their bond numbers are: 307WH648893, 601KZ772381, 231JQ583422, 539MV391732, 158PZ148401, 477GJ503699, 589FY975374, 123EB303630, 560LM282392, 670VZ060356, 630NF081980, 150WK590197, 481PS084082, 238AF506556 and 563LF988282.
Two £1 million jackpot winners confirmed for August
While Birmingham and the West Midlands celebrated five-figure wins, the month's two top £1 million prizes both went to savers in the south of England. The first jackpot was won by a holder in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, with bond number 491KF169443. That saver originally bought £40,000 of Bonds in March 2022 and had a total holding of £49,850 going into the August draw.
The second £1 million prize went to a bondholder in Kent, matching number 664BF890888. This winner had purchased £20,000 in Bonds only six months earlier, in February 2026, and held £21,000 in total when their number was called.
Improved odds and higher prize fund rate from July
NS&I made changes earlier this summer that increased the chances of winning for all Premium Bonds holders. From the July 2026 draw, the prize fund rate rose from 3.6 per cent to 3.8 per cent, and the odds of any individual £1 Bond winning a prize improved from 23,000 to 1 to 22,000 to 1.
The changes mean that for every £1 Bond held, the chances of picking up a prize in each monthly draw are now slightly better. However, as NS&I points out, winning is still far from guaranteed. Even someone with the maximum £50,000 holding – which provides 50,000 individual £1 entries – could go months without a win, and most prizes are for £100 or less. In fact, the majority of Bond holders receive nothing at all in any given month.
Premium Bonds vs traditional savings accounts
Unlike a standard savings account, where your balance grows predictably through guaranteed interest, Premium Bonds offer no guaranteed growth. Instead, every £1 Bond is entered into the monthly draw, and each has an equal chance of winning a prize ranging from £25 to £1 million. The prize fund rate of 3.8 per cent is an average figure, not a promise of what you will earn.
For savers who prefer steady, reliable returns, a conventional savings account may deliver a better outcome over time. But for those who enjoy the excitement of the monthly draw, checking your bond numbers remains part of the fun – and as this August's results show, Birmingham has had plenty to celebrate.
