UK tourists have been issued a cost-saving tip by a travel expert as the summer getaway season begins. According to the expert, many holidaymakers unknowingly drive up the price of their own trips by making common mistakes.
Dynamic Pricing Pitfalls
Travel specialist Kate, known as @Thedonnellyedit on TikTok, explained that repeatedly searching for the same flight route can increase prices due to dynamic pricing algorithms. She said: "We are all guilty of this. The more you search a route, the algorithm detects demand and adjusts prices upwards. Prices go up, they don't go down." Kate advises booking as soon as you find a good deal within your budget, rather than waiting and searching repeatedly.
Consider Alternative Airports
Kate also highlighted that sticking to your local airport could mean missing out on significant savings. She shared her own experience of swapping Manchester Airport for Leeds, which saved her £300 on the same destination. Travellers can use platforms like SkyScanner and select 'nearby airports' to compare prices.
Flexible Dates and Trip Lengths
Flexibility with travel dates can also reduce costs. Kate noted that shifting a trip by just one day or extending a stay by a night can lower the overall price. She has often found that booking 10 nights can be cheaper than seven. Instead of standard week-long packages, consider trips of six, 10, or 11 nights to access rarely-sold deals.
While Kate's tips focus on overseas holidays, many apply to staycations as well. By avoiding these common errors, UK tourists can save hundreds of pounds on their summer getaways.
