Blackpool's Daish's Hotel Rebrands as Hotel Santa Maria Under New Ownership
A prominent hotel on Blackpool's North Shore promenade has officially changed its name and appearance, marking a significant transformation in the local hospitality scene.
New Ownership and Fresh Identity
The former Daish's Blackpool Hotel, a substantial 70-bed property previously operated by Daish's Coach Holidays for many years, was sold in November as part of the company's operational shake-up. It has now been acquired by a smaller enterprise led by father and son Declan and Leo Scully, who purchased it for an undisclosed sum late last year.
The new owners have completed a comprehensive makeover, replacing the old grey external walls and blue signage with a magnolia shade and introducing the new name: Hotel Santa Maria. This rebranding effort signals a fresh start for the establishment as it prepares for the upcoming season.
Owner's Vision and Customer Loyalty
Declan Scully, speaking after the takeover, expressed enthusiasm for the venture. "My son is handling the marketing side, and I'll be overseeing the hotel and trying to make people happy!" he said. He highlighted the tremendous loyalty from customers, with many returning guests even requesting the same room.
"Our idea is to bring TLC to the building and happiness to the guests, ensuring they have a lovely stay and will want to come back," Declan added. "We have total confidence in the holiday sector in Blackpool; we think it's flourishing, and that's why we're here."
Employment and Broader Tourism Context
While the former Daish's Blackpool Hotel employed around 30 staff, Declan noted that he was not in a position to discuss employment contracts shortly after the takeover. This transition occurs against the backdrop of broader developments in Blackpool's tourism industry.
Last summer saw the creation of Blackpool Tourism, an initiative formed by Blackpool Council to oversee and manage major town attractions such as Blackpool Tower, Sandcastle Waterpark, and Madame Tussauds. This body aims to boost the local economy and reinvest profits into town services.
Recently, Blackpool Tourism launched its new "Ultimate Ticket," a pass offering entry to six major attractions for £65. Valid for 90 days after the first visit, it includes access to Pleasure Beach Resort with unlimited rides, Sandcastle Waterpark, The Blackpool Tower Top, Tower Circus, Tower Dungeon, and Madame Tussauds.
With its new name and colour scheme, Hotel Santa Maria is poised to contribute to Blackpool's flourishing holiday sector, offering a refreshed experience for visitors seeking comfort and memorable stays in this iconic seaside destination.
