Historic Somerset Theme Park Set for Easter Reopening After Temporary Closure
Brean Theme Park, a beloved attraction in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, is preparing to welcome visitors once again for the Easter holidays. This comes after the park faced a temporary closure in February due to significant financial challenges.
A Legacy Dating Back to the 1940s
The theme park has been a popular destination for holidaymakers since the 1940s, offering family fun for generations. However, like many leisure attractions, it has struggled with a decline in visitor numbers following the pandemic, leading to financial strain.
Financial Difficulties and Liquidation
In February, the park appointed liquidators as a result of these financial pressures. Unity Holidays, the parent company that operates Brean Leisure Park, cited "significant financial challenges" as the primary cause, attributing them to reduced footfall in recent years.
Short-Term Agreement for Easter Opening
This week, Unity Holidays announced that an agreement has been reached to allow Brean Theme Park to reopen temporarily for the Easter period. The park is scheduled to open on Friday, April 3, and will operate fully throughout the school holidays, adhering to its intended schedule.
Long-Term Plans for Revitalization
While the immediate focus is on the Easter reopening, Unity Holidays is actively working on a long-term agreement to secure the park's future. This new arrangement, expected to be finalized by the end of May, aims to transform the attraction with several key improvements:
- Returning to a smaller, more manageable site model
- Introducing new and enhanced rides
- Revamping the food and beverage offerings
- Improving the overall aesthetic and visitor experience
Community and Economic Impact
Mark Seaton, Chief Executive of Unity Holidays, emphasized the importance of Brean Theme Park to the local community and the wider Somerset visitor economy. "We understand how much Brean Theme Park means to holidaymakers and the local area," he stated. "Our priority has always been to secure a positive long-term future that protects its place at the heart of Brean and ensures it continues to offer great-value family fun."
Seaton explained that the temporary closure was a difficult decision made due to operational failings, but permission has now been granted for the park to resume operations. The forthcoming long-term agreement is set to include significant reinvestment, which will benefit caravan owners, holidaymakers, local businesses, and the community reliant on tourism in Brean and Burnham-on-Sea.
This reopening marks a hopeful step forward for an iconic Somerset attraction, blending its historic charm with plans for a modernized future.
