Family Review: Carnival Games at Merry Hill - A New Entertainment Hub
As a family that thrives on friendly competition, from golf to bowling and darts, we were excited to try out Merry Hill's newest entertainment venue, Carnival Games. This attraction has been operating in part of the former Debenhams store since February, offering a vibrant mix of activities perfect for all ages.
What Carnival Games Offers
Carnival Golf and Games features two 12-hole crazy golf courses, a laser tag arena, arcade games, electric darts, and escape rooms. During our visit, we opted for laser tag, mini golf, and some arcade games, including the interactive digital floor game called Pixel.
Laser Tag Experience
We started with Laser Station, which includes mazes and multi-level battlegrounds where players compete to tag opponents and climb the leaderboard. Our host was excellent, and we watched a video briefing with tips on scoring more points. Since we had our 15-month-old with us, my two stepsons and I played first, then my partner and I swapped for the second game.
The space was larger than expected, with two rooms and an upper level for targeting opponents below. The 15-minute game flew by as we hid around corners and zapped other players. Extra points could be earned by destroying base stations and wall targets, something my stepsons missed in the briefing, leading to my victory in the first round despite fewer shots. It was incredibly fun, and we'd definitely return. Prices start at £7.99 per person for one game or £12.99 for two.
Mini Golf Adventure
Next, we tried the mini golf, choosing the Volcano Falls course over the carnival-themed option. The theming was impressive, with animatronic dinosaurs, volcanoes, and waterfalls. Our visit was quiet, allowing us to take our time, but it might feel rushed during busy periods. Each hole was unique, with surprises along the way, and we look forward to trying the other course.
Arcade Fun
The arcade is filled with nostalgic classics and new games. We loaded a card with tokens, which rewarded us with tickets exchangeable for prizes. We played Mario Kart, grabber machines, and Connect 4 basketball, but the highlight was Pixel. This interactive digital floor projects games onto the ground, requiring quick reactions as we ran, jumped, and dodged lights. We only had one game but would love to play again.
Overall Impression
We loved our morning at Carnival Games and believe it's exactly what Merry Hill needed. Shopping centres are no longer just about retail; dining and entertainment options enhance the experience, and this venue completes the centre. We can't wait to return as a family to try the darts and escape rooms.
Prices for crazy golf start from £12 per person, while 30 minutes of electric darts is £25 per lane for up to six people. For more information and bookings, visit the Carnival Golf and Games website.
