FCDO Updates Travel Advice for Popular Holiday Destinations
With the summer holiday season rapidly approaching, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued critical travel warnings for three popular destinations. Britons planning trips to Turkey, Thailand, and Mexico are advised to avoid specific regions due to security concerns and ongoing conflicts.
Turkey: Border Areas with Syria Deemed High-Risk
The FCDO strongly advises against all travel within 10 kilometres of the Turkish border with Syria. This warning is due to the persistent conflict in the region and an elevated risk of terrorism, which poses significant dangers to travellers.
Thailand: Multiple Regions Under Travel Advisory
In Thailand, the FCDO has identified several areas as no-go zones. Travel is advised against in provinces near the Thailand-Malaysia border, including Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat, as well as specific districts in Songkhla Province, due to frequent attacks. Additionally, all but essential travel is discouraged within 20 kilometres of the land border with Cambodia, where tensions remain high following clashes in July 2025, with risks from unexploded landmines and potential artillery fire.
Mexico: States with Security Concerns Listed
For Mexico, the FCDO recommends avoiding all but essential travel to several states, such as Baja California, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, and Guerrero, among others. This advice is particularly crucial for those attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled from July 11 to July 19, urging travellers to stay updated with the latest FCDO guidance.
It is essential for holidaymakers to review and adhere to FCDO travel advice before finalising any plans, ensuring a safe and enjoyable summer break.
