A popular coffee shop in Birmingham's celebrated Jewellery Quarter is set to unveil a brand new cosy wine bar this week, expanding its offering into the evening.
Tranquil 1992 After Hours will open its doors on Thursday, January 8, at its existing home at 87 Vyse Street. The venue, which has earned a stellar 4.8-star Google rating for its authentic Vietnamese coffee, will transform into a laid-back bar serving a curated selection of drinks.
From Daytime Brews to Night-Time Sips
The new concept marks a significant expansion for the business, which first opened in late 2023. By day, it remains a haven for speciality salted coffee, egg coffee, and matcha. By night, from 6:30pm to 10:30pm, Thursday to Saturday, it will offer an 'after hours' experience.
The wine list will focus on independent wines from local suppliers, alongside imported Japanese umeshu (plum wine) and Vietnamese beer. The ambience will be shaped by a vinyl-only soundtrack featuring modern jazz and house music.
Filling a Gap in the Heart of Birmingham
Founder Thang Nguyen explained the motivation behind the new venture. "As a wine lover myself, I'm always looking for a quirky modern jazz bar where I can relax and genuinely communicate with people," he said.
"It's surprisingly difficult to find a local indie wine bar in central Birmingham, and we saw this as a real gap in the market. By bringing in quirky, characterful wines, we hope Tranquil 1992 After Hours becomes part of the Jewellery Quarter's community - a place not just for Brummies, but for visitors and tourists as well."
A Boost for the 'Best Neighbourhood'
The launch comes at an opportune moment for the Jewellery Quarter, which was recently crowned the best place to live in Birmingham. This accolade has sparked fresh interest in the area's diverse offerings beyond its historic trade.
Conveniently located opposite the Jewellery Quarter train and tram station, Tranquil 1992 After Hours is poised to become a new evening destination. The daytime coffee shop service continues daily from 10am.
