Solihull pub cancels NYE party after 'lack of interest' sparks music debate
Solihull pub cancels New Year's Eve party

A popular countryside pub in Solihull has been forced to cancel its planned New Year's Eve celebration after a disappointing lack of bookings, prompting a discussion about its choice of music.

Event Cancelled Due to Low Numbers

The Blue Bell Cider House, located on the canalside in Earlswood, announced the cancellation on social media on December 30th. The venue stated bluntly that the party was "cancelled due to a lack of interest." In a follow-up message, management explained, "Unfortunately due to low numbers, we have had to cancel the New Years Eve party."

The pub advised all customers who had already purchased tickets to contact them directly to arrange a full refund.

Patrons Point to Music Mismatch

The announcement sparked reactions from locals, with several suggesting the event's music lineup was poorly suited to the pub's regular clientele. The night had been advertised to feature RNB, bashment, house, and garage music.

One patron, Nigel Bushby, commented: "Think you pitched this wrong for a New Years Eve party out in the countryside where most of the locals are not the right demographic."

Others proposed alternative genres they believed would have been more successful. Michael Clohessy responded: "Should have been motown, reggae, and sixties. You would have sold out." Another, Chris Smith, succinctly suggested: "Eighties night."

Location and Aftermath

The Blue Bell Cider House is situated at Warings Green Rd, Earlswood, Solihull, B94 6BP. It is known for its quality drinks and cosy, canal-side atmosphere.

The cancellation highlights the challenges venues face in programming events that resonate with their local community, especially on key dates like New Year's Eve. The pub's management has not indicated if an alternative event will be arranged.
