TUI agent reveals 7 autumn holiday destinations still warm

TUI travel agent Jane Cox, who has worked at the travel firm for 23 years, has revealed her top seven destinations for an autumn holiday, highlighting where Brits can still enjoy hot and sunny weather well into October and November. The list spans European favourites like the Canary Islands and Cyprus, as well as long-haul options including Mexico and Thailand.

Egypt: Comfortable heat and value for money

Egypt tops the list with average temperatures of 28C to 32C and pint prices from £3, making it a firm favourite with British holidaymakers long into autumn. Jane explained: "Egypt is a really good option for autumn because the temperatures become much more comfortable while still delivering plenty of sunshine. It’s a great time to enjoy everything the destination has to offer, whether that’s spending time on the beach, snorkelling in the Red Sea or exploring some of the country’s incredible history."

Canary Islands: Short-haul sunshine with island variety

The Canary Islands offer year-round sunshine with temperatures around 27C into late October, and a relatively short flight time of about four hours. "The Canary Islands are one of the first places I recommend when people ask where to go in autumn," said Jane. "They’re only a relatively short flight from the UK, but you can still count on warm sunshine well into October and beyond. Each island has its own personality too, from Fuerteventura’s long sandy beaches to Lanzarote’s volcanic landscapes, Tenerife’s mix of beaches and attractions and Gran Canaria’s varied scenery."

For Tenerife, Jane suggested Hotel AF Valle Orotava in Puerto de la Cruz, noting its rooftop pools and walking-distance access to the beach, local restaurants and the town centre, calling it "a great choice for couples wanting sunshine, culture and relaxation."

Cyprus and Mexico: Beach days and cultural exploration

Cyprus is another strong option, with daytime temperatures hovering around 27C in October. Jane said: "Even in October, it’s usually warm enough for a beach holiday, but the slightly cooler temperatures also make it a great time to get out and explore." She highlighted the variety, from the Troodos Mountains to historic spots like Paphos, and noted that autumn's quieter atmosphere allows visitors to enjoy local restaurants, harbourfronts and traditional villages at a more relaxed pace.

For long-haul travellers, Mexico offers warm weather, beaches and adventures. Jane recommended visiting ancient Mayan sites, snorkelling in the crystal-clear Caribbean Sea, or exploring Playa del Carmen's shops and lively atmosphere. "The weather is warm and sunny, making it ideal for days out as well as beach time," she added.

Thailand, Tyrol and Lake Garda: Diverse autumn escapes

Thailand is a top long-haul winter sun escape, according to Jane, with Khao Lak praised for its relaxed atmosphere and beautiful coastline, and Krabi offering beaches, boat trips and exploration opportunities. For couples, she recommended Sunprime Kamala Beach in Phuket, an adults-only property with four swimming pools, sea-view dining and direct beachfront access.

Austria's Tyrol region is another pick, particularly for outdoor enthusiasts. "The scenery is incredible at that time of year, with the mountains taking on rich autumn colours," Jane said. She recommended St Johann in Tyrol for all abilities, from gentle valley strolls to challenging mountain hikes, with traditional mountain huts offering local Austrian food along the way.

Finally, Lake Garda in Italy remains warm until about late October, with temperatures around 25C. Jane advised hopping on a boat to visit different towns, such as Sirmione for its historic centre and Limone for scenic walks and lakeside cafés. "It’s the kind of destination where you can spend your days sightseeing, trying local food and simply soaking up the views," she concluded.
