UK Tourists Warned of Price Hikes for Balearic Flights

UK tourists planning holidays to Majorca, Menorca, and Ibiza have been warned to expect rising flight ticket prices this summer. The Balearic Islands Travel Agencies Association (AVIBA) issued the alert, attributing the increases to the ongoing Middle East conflict involving Iran, the US, Israel, and Lebanon.

AVIBA President Warns of Price Hikes

Pedro Fiol, president of AVIBA, cautioned that ticket prices will rise as airlines gradually pass on higher costs. He stated, "We don't foresee a summer with planes grounded due to a lack of fuel, but we do anticipate a more complex and price-driven environment." The association noted that EU airlines are currently maintaining "a certain restraint" in pricing, but this may not last.

Impact on Off-Season Travel

Fiol highlighted that adjustments to services would be felt more acutely in Ibiza and Menorca than in Majorca. The greater concern lies with the off-season, where cost increases could be more pronounced. He reassured holidaymakers that Lufthansa's cancellation of 20,000 flights until October does not affect Spanish airports, as flights to the Balearics remain highly profitable, especially in peak season.

Majorca Remains a Safe Bet

Fiol described Majorca as "a safe bet," aligning with Spain's Airlines Association, which expressed similar views. The three islands continue to be top destinations for UK tourists, with summer season approaching. Travelers are advised to book early and anticipate higher prices.
