Aston Fire: 20 Firefighters Tackle Blaze After Explosion

A large fire broke out at a business in Aston this afternoon (May 7), sending thick black smoke into the sky. Around 20 firefighters were called to the scene on Lichfield Road at approximately 1:30pm after reports of an explosion.

Firefighters discovered that furniture and wooden pallets were ablaze at the rear of the premises. Footage showed black smoke billowing from the building, and crews were seen entering and exiting Isaac Court.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: 'Shortly after 1:30pm today, we responded to Lichfield Road, Nechelles/Aston, Birmingham. Three fire engines, a 4x4 brigade response vehicle, and a hydraulic aerial platform attended the scene, crewed by around 20 firefighters.'

The fire was extinguished by around 2:10pm using hose reels. No casualties or injuries were reported. The service has since scaled down to two fire engines. BirminghamLive has contacted West Midlands Police for comment.
