Birmingham Council Sells Land in Auction to Raise Funds
Birmingham Council Sells Land in Auction

Birmingham City Council is pushing ahead with the sale of two significant plots of land as it seeks to raise urgent funds. The cash-strapped local authority has instructed auctioneers Bond Wolfe to sell the sites at a major auction next month.

Strategic Land Parcels Up for Grabs

The first plot is a 0.79-acre site on Victoria Road in Aston, positioned strategically next to a major junction of the Aston Expressway. It offers easy access to the M6 motorway and is situated near the Masjid-E-Noor Mosque and opposite the Victoria Road Evangelical Church. The guide price for this irregularly shaped land has been set at £400,000 plus.

Gurpreet Bassi, chief executive of Bond Wolfe, highlighted the site's potential. "This valuable plot is in a great strategic position," he said. "With a range of religious, residential and commercial property nearby, it may be suitable for a variety of uses, subject to the necessary planning consents."

Major Tyseley Site with £1.3m Guide Price

The second and larger council-owned plot is located at Weston Lane in Tyseley. This 2.67-acre site is the largest the council is currently offering and comes with a guide price of £1.3 million plus. It is situated just off the A41 Warwick Road, nestled between a mix of industrial and residential properties.

Mr Bassi anticipates strong interest from investors and developers. "We are predicting strong interest in this land as we believe its size and location will make it highly desirable for investors from across the UK and overseas," he explained. He added that all interested parties must conduct their own enquiries with the council's planning department regarding potential uses.

Auction Details and Council Context

The two Birmingham City Council lots will form part of Bond Wolfe's auction of more than 100 properties on Thursday, February 5. The event will be livestreamed, with remote bidding available by proxy, telephone, or via the internet.

These sales are part of the council's wider efforts to manage its severe financial challenges. By liquidating assets, the authority aims to secure quick capital injections. Prospective bidders can find more details and register to bid on the Bond Wolfe website.
