Aldi's 11 Exclusive Staff Discount Stores Revealed Across Britain
Aldi's 11 Staff-Only Discount Stores Revealed

Aldi, the budget supermarket chain familiar to millions of British households, has unveiled a network of 11 'secret' discount stores across the country. However, there is a significant catch: these outlets are exclusively accessible to Aldi staff members, who can enjoy substantially lowered prices on a range of products.

The Exclusive 'Colleague Stores' Initiative

These specialised branches, known internally as 'Colleague Stores,' are strategically located at 11 of Aldi's regional distribution centres throughout Britain. The stores form a key component of Aldi's ambitious environmental strategy, which aims to reduce food waste by 90 per cent by 2030, compared to 2017 levels.

Nationwide Locations and Environmental Impact

The colleague-only stores are situated in various regions, including Bathgate, Darlington, Bolton, Goldthorpe, Neston, Sawley, Atherstone, Cardiff, Swindon, Chelmsford, and Sheppey. This nationwide rollout follows a successful pilot programme initiated in Darlington, with the first permanent store opening in October 2025.

Luke Emery, National Sustainability Director at Aldi UK, emphasised the dual benefits of the initiative. "The colleague shop is another example of how we’re working to cut food waste across our operations," he stated. "It’s a practical initiative that benefits both colleagues and the environment, and we’re pleased to extend it nationwide following a successful pilot."

Substantial Waste Reduction Projections

Under this pioneering scheme, Aldi predicts that approximately 240 tonnes of food waste could be diverted from landfill annually. Instead of being discarded, these products are made available to staff at discounted rates, ultimately helping to feed families across the United Kingdom.

Customer Alternatives: In-Store Reduction Zones

While the colleague-only stores remain off-limits to the general public, Aldi has implemented alternative measures for customers seeking savings. The supermarket chain has introduced dedicated reduction zones within its regular stores, where shoppers can find discounted items nearing their use-by dates.

These reduction zones typically feature products such as bread, fresh produce, and other perishable goods, with discounts applied throughout the day to maximise bargain opportunities for customers. "Our customers already know they can rely on us to provide unbeatable value," Mr Emery added, "but our new reduction areas will make it even easier to pick up a last-minute bargain. By creating dedicated reduction zones in store, we’re helping point shoppers towards quality food at cheaper prices, all while cutting down on food waste."

Aldi's comprehensive approach demonstrates how retail operations can simultaneously support employee welfare, customer savings, and significant environmental objectives through innovative waste reduction strategies.
