Lloyds Banking Group has announced that all remaining Halifax branches in Birmingham will be rebranded as Lloyds Bank, with customer accounts transferred over the coming days. The move will see the Halifax name disappear from the UK high street, but bosses have confirmed there will be no job losses or branch closures as part of the transition.
Six Birmingham branches affected
Birmingham and the surrounding area currently have six Halifax branches: in the Bullring, King's Heath, Perry Barr, on Bristol Road South, Warwick Road, and Greenwood Way. All customers at these branches will have their accounts moved to Lloyds Bank. The bank will begin removing Halifax signs from 190 of the group's 531 branches in early 2027.
Lloyds' consumer relations boss Jas Singh said: “As Halifax changes to Lloyds, our Halifax customers will keep everything they know and love today – the same fantastic app design, the same friendly faces in our branches – even the same sort code and account number. But as Lloyds customers, they’ll get the best innovation and experiences we offer. Our Lloyds customers are already benefiting from a significant investment into propositions like Club Lloyds, Lloyds Premier, Lloyds Ultra and Lloyds Rewards – and now we’re really excited that Halifax customers can bank on Lloyds for more.”
No job losses or branch closures
Bosses have confirmed there will be no job losses or branch closures as part of the announcement. Staff working in Halifax-branded branches are expected to keep their roles as those sites are rebranded to Lloyds over time. Throughout 2027, Halifax branches will either rebrand to Lloyds, or where there is another branch close by, customers will be served by an existing Lloyds branch in the same community.
Lloyds Banking Group says it remains "committed to its role in the town of Halifax, and the wider Yorkshire and Humber region." No new Halifax accounts will be opened going forward.
