Bullring's Claire's Accessories to Close After 23 Years in Birmingham Shopping Centre

Another of the original shops that opened with the Bullring in 2003 is set to shut its doors, as Claire's Accessories announces a major 'closing down' sale. This news comes just one week after the closure of AllSaints, another long-standing retailer in the shopping centre, highlighting a trend of historic stores departing the Birmingham landmark.

Details of the Closure

Claire's Accessories, located on the lower ground floor of the Bullring, will close after 23 years of operation. The store had recently relocated to a new unit within the centre, but this move has not prevented its impending shutdown. In addition to the Bullring branch, the Claire's Accessories shops on New Street will also close, with 'closing down sale' signs already displayed in their windows.

These closures are part of a broader regional trend, affecting branches in Merry Hill and Sutton Coldfield as well. The decision follows Claire's falling into administration on January 26, 2026, marking the second such occurrence for the brand in less than a year.

Background and Impact

Claire's Accessories has a rich history, founded in Chicago in 1961, with its UK head office based in Erdington. In September 2025, Modella Capital purchased 156 branches in an effort to stabilise the business and protect staff roles. However, 145 other branches were excluded from this deal and are now facing closure, including those in Birmingham.

The closure of Claire's Accessories adds to a growing list of departures from the Bullring in 2026. Earlier this year, AllSaints shut down after 23 years, having also relocated within the centre months prior. Other notable closures include Tag Heuer, Kate Spade, SDMN, and 3, with Russell and Bromley also announcing a closing down sale on the upper level near Selfridges.

Future of the Bullring

Despite these closures, new brands are set to arrive at the Bullring this year, bringing fresh energy to the shopping centre. Confirmed newcomers include Victoria's Secret, LuluLemon, and Subdued, indicating a shift in the retail landscape as historic stores make way for modern retailers.

This pattern of closures and openings reflects broader changes in the retail sector, with Birmingham's Bullring continuing to evolve as a key shopping destination in the region.
