House of Fraser Birmingham Slashes Prices in Half Ahead of Final Closure Next Week
House of Fraser Birmingham Slashes Prices Before Closure

House of Fraser's flagship Birmingham store on Corporation Street, originally known as Rackhams, is set to close its doors for the final time next week, prompting the retailer to slash prices on designer brands by half.

Final Closing Date Revealed

The iconic department store, which has been a fixture in the city centre for decades, will shut permanently on June 25, according to sources. The announcement follows an earlier revelation in April that the store would close in late June, leaving staff reportedly feeling "very sad".

Massive Discounts on Premium Brands

Shoppers visiting the store this week have been greeted with 50% discounts on a wide range of products, including jeans, coats, jackets, t-shirts, homeware, and jewellery. Top brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Barbour, Boss, Pretty Green, Lyle & Scott, Jack Wills, and Nike are all included in the mega sale. Full suits are available for under £40.

Store Layout Reduced

The top floor of the store is no longer accessible, leaving only the middle and ground floors open for customers to browse. The closure marks the end of an era for the building, which was rebranded from Rackhams—a Birmingham-founded department store that thrived for over a century—in August 2003.

Background and Future

House of Fraser fell into administration in 2018 and was rescued by Sports Direct tycoon Mike Ashley. In 2023, the company announced plans to rebrand some stores under the 'Frasers' name, with the Birmingham location converted into an outlet branch. The impending closure has sparked a final clearance sale, with prices slashed even further as the last day approaches.

BirminghamLive has contacted House of Fraser for official confirmation of the final closing date.
