Lloyds Banking Group is set to close 11 branches this week, including a branch in the West Midlands, as part of a wider strategy that will see 233 branches shut by the end of 2026, according to consumer group Which?. The group, which owns Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland, has closed nearly 1,600 branches across the UK since 2015 — more than any other banking network.

Industry-wide branch decline
Which? estimates that a total of 6,693 bank branches across the UK closed between January 2015 and January 2026. The trend reflects the rapid shift to digital banking, with fewer customers visiting physical branches.
Lloyds defends face-to-face investment
Despite the closures, Lloyds said it remains committed to face-to-face banking. A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group told MoneyWeek: "With access to one of the biggest branch networks in the UK, customers can now use any of our Lloyds or Halifax branches. Alongside other local banking options like our community bankers, the Post Office, PayPoint, plus our leading apps and 24/7 messaging service, we offer our customers more choice and convenience than ever before."
The group noted that all existing branches are now open to all Lloyds Banking Group customers — meaning any Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland customer can use any of its branches.
