Poundland, the prominent discount retailer, has confirmed it will be shutting five of its UK stores during February 2026. This move forms part of a broader strategic restructuring that has seen the company close over 100 locations since June 2025, following its acquisition by investment firm Gordon Brothers for a nominal sum of £1.
Strategic Return to Core Pricing
Concurrently, Poundland has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining approximately 60% of its grocery items at the iconic £1 price point across its remaining estate. This pricing strategy was successfully trialled over a five-month period at 17 stores located in the West Midlands region.
The company has described this initiative as a return to its foundational principles, aiming to eliminate additional pricing complexity. In the coming months, this simplified pricing structure is set to be extended across general merchandise and clothing ranges, marking a significant operational shift.
February Closure Schedule
The specific stores scheduled for closure in February 2026 are as follows:
- Chichester – closing on February 8
- Feltham – closing on February 8
- Crayford – closing on February 11
- Nottingham (Chilwell) – closing on February 13
- Urmston – closing on February 16
Final Sales and Customer Offers
A Poundland spokesperson confirmed that customers at the affected stores will have the opportunity to benefit from substantial savings during the closure preparations. Discounts of up to 40% will be applied across all remaining stock, encompassing diverse product categories from homewares and groceries to clothing, health, and beauty items. These reductions will continue until all merchandise is sold.
Management Perspective on the Closures
Darren MacDonald, Poundland's UK Country Manager, addressed the closures directly: "We understand the disappointment that accompanies a store closure. However, before we finally close these doors, we are committed to offering exceptional value to our loyal customers as our farewell gesture."
He further elaborated: "These special reductions, supplementing the consistent value we provide in all our stores, allow us to depart from these locations with a sense of pride. As we close these specific stores, we eagerly anticipate welcoming customers to any of the hundreds of Poundland stores that will continue operating nationwide."
The retailer, which maintains its headquarters in the West Midlands near Birmingham, continues to operate a significant network of stores across the United Kingdom despite these latest closures.
