Fashion chain Ted Baker is planning a significant return to the high street after making a comeback to Birmingham's shopping scene. The retailer is preparing to launch its first new standalone UK shop later this year, signalling the next phase in its revival after all its UK outlets shut following the company's collapse.
Ted Baker Returns to Birmingham with Bullring Concession
The development emerged as Ted Baker's re-entry into physical retail continued with a new concession at Selfridges' Bullring store. A similar boutique opened at Selfridges at Manchester's Trafford Centre in May. Owner Authentic Brands Group confirmed the first standalone outlet would launch "very soon", though the location remained undisclosed, according to Retail Week.
Backstory: The 2024 Collapse and Store Closures
Ted Baker's UK store operator, No Ordinary Designer Label, went into administration in March 2024. By August that year, all 46 UK outlets had shut, ending the brand's 36-year presence on the British high street and leading to hundreds of redundancies.
Revival Strategy: Online Relaunch and New Store Plans
After the collapse, Authentic Brands Group sought a new operating partner before relaunching Ted Baker's UK website in November 2024. Established in Glasgow in 1988, Ted Baker developed into one of the UK's most recognisable fashion brands, operating around 550 shops and concessions globally at its height.
What's Next for Ted Baker in the UK?
More information about Ted Baker's first full-scale shop is expected to be revealed in the coming months. The new standalone store will mark a key milestone in the brand's efforts to rebuild its physical retail presence in the UK.
