Major UK Retailers Issue Urgent Product Recalls
Several prominent UK retailers, including Asda, Argos, Sainsbury's, Lidl, Tesco, and Farmfoods, are urging customers to return specific items immediately due to serious safety concerns. Trading Standards and the Food Standards Agency (FSA) have both issued warnings regarding these recalls, which affect a range of products from food items to electrical appliances.
Gü Cheesecake Recall at Asda
An urgent recall has been issued for the Gü Blonde Chocolate Cheesecake, a popular chilled dessert sold at Asda and other UK supermarkets. The recall is due to a packaging error where some packs may contain a cheesecake with hazelnuts that are not listed on the label, posing a significant allergy risk. Food safety watchdogs have issued a 'do not eat' warning and advise customers to return the product to any store for a full refund.
The affected product has a pack size of 2 x 82g, batch code 226044, and a use-by date of March 12, 2026. Anyone who has consumed the product and experiences symptoms such as swelling, hives, difficulty breathing, or dizziness should seek medical help immediately, as advised by the NHS.
Farmfoods Recalls Ritz Crackers
Farmfoods is recalling its Ritz Cheese Sandwich product because it contains milk, soya, and wheat (gluten), which are not properly emphasised on the label. This recall only affects products originating from Indonesia and does not impact items from other countries. The product poses a health risk to individuals with allergies or intolerances to these ingredients, including those with coeliac disease.
Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores selling this product and on the Farmfoods website, explaining the reason for the recall and providing instructions for customers who have purchased it.
Air Fryer Recalls at Multiple Retailers
Multiple Tower air fryer models have been recalled due to a fire hazard, as they can overheat and catch alight during operation. These devices fail to meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 and are stocked at retailers including Sainsbury's, Lidl, Robert Dyas, B&M, Poundland, Tesco, and the Tower website.
The impacted products are:
- T17023 Tower 2.2Ltr Manual Air Fryer
- T17061BLK Tower 4Ltr Manual Air Fryer
- T17067 Tower 4Ltr Digital Air Fryer (Sainsbury’s SKU: 143897281)
- T17087 Tower 2Ltr Compact Manual Air Fryer
- T17129L Tower Vortx 8L Air Fryer (Lidl)
- T17129 Tower Vortx 8L Air Fryer (Argos)
Customers who have purchased any of these air fryers are advised to unplug them immediately and contact the retailer for a refund to prevent potential fire incidents.
These recalls highlight the importance of consumer vigilance and prompt action when safety issues arise. Retailers are working closely with authorities to ensure affected products are removed from shelves and customers are properly informed.
