Greggs has confirmed it will bring back its “legendary” Steak & Stilton Bake, a fan-favourite item that was scrapped seven years ago, as part of a major autumn menu shake-up. The seasonal menu, which includes the returning bake, will debut on September 3, the company confirmed.
The bake features Greggs’ classic fluffy pastry filled with diced beef cooked in rich gravy, blue Stilton cheese and grilled onions, finished with a black pepper crunch. It will retail at £2.50. Greggs, which operates branches in Birmingham, announced the return in a statement.
A Seven-Year Wait Comes to an End
Greggs confirmed the return with a playful message: “You’ve asked, bargained, begged and outright demanded that we bring this back and – we listened… sort of. Now wrapped in our famous flakey puff pastry and topped with a black pepper crumb, the Steak & Stilton Bake builds on a legacy that left many of you longing for more.”
The company added: “For those of you who never had the pleasure of trying this combo, it features diced beef cooked in a rich gravy, Blue Stilton cheese and grilled onions, enclosed in our flakey glazed puff pastry and topped with a black pepper crumb. Get ready to see what all the fuss is about from 3rd September... Hungry for more? Then discover our range of sweet sips and warmers arriving this autumn…”
Autumn Menu and Seasonal Additions
The Steak & Stilton Bake is part of a wider seasonal offering that includes new sweet sips and warmers arriving this autumn. The announcement follows a summer in which Greggs reported strong sales despite challenging weather conditions.
The chain, which operates 2,773 bakeries, revealed that sales increased over the first half of 2026 while its expansion across the UK continued. Iced lattes, picnic food and a larger range of salads helped the company navigate heatwaves this year, according to its boss.
CEO Comments on Resilience and New Products
Roisin Currie, Greggs’ chief executive, told the Press Association: “You do see that when temperatures get above 30 degrees that people start to eat less. We’ve been much more resilient this year than previously because we learned some lessons.”
Ms Currie said Greggs was focused on “keeping it exciting for customers” with new products such as a blueberry matcha iced latte within the drinks range, which was appealing particularly to younger consumers. The autumn menu, including the Steak & Stilton Bake, will be available from September 3 at Greggs stores nationwide, including those in Birmingham.
