Channel 4's beloved Gogglebox star Ellie Warner has made a significant career announcement, revealing her exciting new business venture that brings a long-held dream to fruition. Away from her television appearances alongside sister Izzi, Ellie is a professional hairdresser who specialises in colouring techniques using eco-friendly products, and she is now taking her craft to the next level with an innovative mobile salon concept.
Introducing the Glamavan: A Dream Realised
Ellie Warner has unveiled plans to convert a 57-year-old vintage caravan into a stylish private hairdressing studio, which she has affectionately named the "Glamavan." This project represents the culmination of years of aspiration to create a dedicated workspace from her home. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Ellie shared the journey behind this venture, explaining how she explored various options before discovering the perfect solution.
The Search for the Ideal Space
Initially, Ellie considered converting her garage, but structural issues made it unsuitable. She then thought about building a garden room, but her chickens had already claimed the prime garden spot. Converting a bedroom was another idea, but her partner Nat preferred not to have it in the house. It was while browsing Facebook Marketplace that Ellie stumbled upon a beautiful vintage caravan, sparking a lightbulb moment.
"What if I could convert this into a little salon space?" she recalled thinking. The first caravan she found had been lovingly restored, making her hesitant to alter it. However, she soon discovered another caravan that was stripped back and ready for transformation, which she described as "perfect for what I needed."
Collaboration and Restoration
The caravan was located in Loughborough and required transportation to Ellie's home, as it was not in towable condition. After patiently arranging transport and building a carport for protection, the caravan arrived in September. Ellie has enlisted her friend Siobhan to help with the project, aiming to turn what she calls "this humble piece of scrap metal" into a showstopping salon.
She expressed gratitude for finding Cameron, the seller who is an expert in restoring classic caravans, describing the discovery as "like winning the lottery." The caravan had been a personal project of his that lost momentum, providing Ellie with the ideal blank canvas for her vision.
Ellie's Hairdressing Career
Based at HIVE hair salon in White Cloth Hall, Leeds, Ellie began her hairdressing career in 2009 at Sassoons in Leeds, where she specialised in cutting. She later developed a passion for colouring, which led her to join HIVE, where she continues to learn and update her skills with the latest products and techniques.
On the salon's website, Ellie states: "I'm always learning and keeping up to date on the latest products and techniques so I can give my clients their hair goals! As a hairdresser I believe you should never stop learning and trying to better yourself."
This new venture with the Glamavan allows Ellie to expand her services, offering private treatments in a unique, mobile setting while maintaining her commitment to eco-friendly practices and client satisfaction.
