More than 750 singers from the community choir Local Vocals are preparing for their largest performance to date, with two concerts scheduled at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall on Saturday, August 1. The event aims to raise funds for North West Cancer Research, with all profits from both the matinee and evening shows donated directly to the charity.
Celebrity Host and Musical Accompaniment
Coronation Street actress Sue Devaney will host the performances, which will also feature a live band and a string quartet. The choir, founded in January 2021 by Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts graduate Laura Bennett-Gornall, has grown rapidly and now boasts over 1,000 members attending weekly rehearsals across the North of England.
Fundraising Success and Community Impact
Since its inception, Local Vocals has raised more than £60,000 for various good causes across the region. The upcoming concerts represent a significant milestone for the group, which welcomes new members aged 16 and older without requiring auditions or the ability to read music. The next term begins in September.
