Employees from Nottingham-based accountancy firm Azets have pedalled their way to a remarkable fundraising success. Trevor Shaw, Matt Woodhead, and Lizzie Malkin each spent 30 minutes on Wattbikes, joining forces with Tom Summers of Evolve Corporate Finance to raise more than £5,000 for the 'Big C little c' charity.
The 24-Hour Endurance Challenge
Tom Summers undertook a gruelling 24-hour non-stop cycling marathon, with various riders joining him throughout the day and night. The two bikes used during the event collectively covered over 750 miles, a testament to the endurance and commitment of all participants.
The challenge took place from noon to noon in Nottingham city centre, where numerous passers-by cheered on the determined cyclists. To help the riders cope with the warm conditions, fans were strategically positioned in front of the bikes.
A Personal Triumph for Trevor Shaw
Tax partner Trevor Shaw, who is in his 60th year, admitted he hadn't been on a bicycle since his school days. Despite this, he took on the demanding 1am slot alongside Tom.
Speaking about his experience, Trevor said: "I last cycled properly when I was a teenager and though I do a lot of walking and running it doesn't prepare you for a half hour's intense cycle."
He added: "We heard about the charity challenge and businesses were invited to buy a half hour cycling next to Tom during his 24-hour effort. Three of us put our names forward and we also received support from colleagues in the business. It was our pleasure to support Tom in his challenge, I don't know how he did it."
Supporting a Worthy Cause
The 'Big C little c' charity does wonderful work raising money for cancer charities and children's charities in Nottingham. It also plays a crucial role in raising awareness about these important issues.
The Azets team's participation not only helped raise significant funds but also demonstrated the firm's commitment to supporting local community initiatives. Their collective effort has made a tangible difference to the charity's work in the region.
