Barlounge's 25 Acts of Kindness Raises Over £25,000 for Chester Community
Barlounge, a cherished bar in Chester, has celebrated its 25th anniversary with an inspiring year-long charitable campaign, successfully raising more than £25,000 for numerous good causes across Chester, Flintshire, and the wider region. Since its establishment in 2000, Barlounge has maintained strong community ties, and this initiative, dubbed 25 Acts of Kindness, involved a series of challenges and events that engaged local organisations and showcased the team's dedication.
Diverse Charitable Efforts and Community Partnerships
Throughout the year, the Barlounge team collaborated with various organisations, including the Countess of Chester Hospital, Chester Street Angels, Hospice of the Good Shepherd, Flintshire Foodbank, Cash4Kids, and Amy and Friends. Their activities ranged from adventurous feats like abseiling down Anfield and climbing Snowdon for the 'Sausages at the Summit' event, which raised funds for SPACE, a charity supporting parent-carers, to more grounded efforts such as planting flowers and volunteering countless hours.
In May, Floor Manager Chloe spearheaded the 50K in May initiative for the MS Society, where the team collectively tracked daily steps, surpassing their 50,000-step goal with an impressive 72,000 steps. This campaign involved every team member and more than doubled the initial target. Additionally, in August, four staff members—Shaun, Ollie, Becca, and Nick—undertook a gruelling Backyard Ultra-style marathon, running 2km every half hour for six hours to raise essential funds for Chapter, a mental health charity in Ellesmere Port.
Ongoing Support and Successful Fundraising Milestones
Barlounge's commitment extended to ongoing partnerships, such as with Soul Kitchen, where chefs prepared and served meals at weekly suppers, donated catering equipment for a new kitchen, and supported fundraising events with supplies and hands-on help. The team also hosted well-attended charity lunches and the annual 'Sausage Fest' fundraiser, contributing to the overall total. Earlier this month, they proudly smashed their £25,000 target, concluding the year-long celebrations on a high note.

Founder Neil McDonnell emphasized that the 25 Acts of Kindness project reflects Barlounge's core values of hospitality and community connection. He stated, "From day one, Barlounge has always been about our guests—the relationships we have forged with the community, and the city that helped shape us." He added that giving back was a fitting way to mark the anniversary, with plans to continue supporting local causes. General Manager Craig MacGregor highlighted the initiative's impact, noting, "Working with neighbouring charities, schools, and community groups has been an incredible experience... Barlounge has always been a locals bar, and this year has reminded us just how strong that connection to the community really is."
Recent Refurbishment and Enhanced Offerings
Following a large-scale refurbishment, Barlounge has recently reopened with a brand-new open kitchen, an updated bar, and an extended outside terrace. The renovation introduces new cooking methods and elevated flavours while preserving the beloved dishes, drinks, and atmosphere that have made it a local favourite for 25 years. This refresh aims to enhance the guest experience while maintaining the bar's cherished community spirit.
