Barrow Funeralcare Raises £1,000+ for Local Charities

Staff at Co-op Funeralcare Barrow on Roose Road have raised more than £1,000 for four local charities through a series of community events, demonstrating their commitment to supporting essential services beyond their daily work.

The funds were distributed equally among Andy’s Man Club, Rampside Village Hall, Barnardo’s, and CancerCare Barrow, providing a boost to services ranging from mental health support to community hubs and children’s welfare.

Fundraising Events and Contributions

The team organised a charity car wash that raised £300 specifically for Andy’s Man Club, a charity dedicated to breaking the stigma around male mental health and preventing male suicide by offering men a safe space to talk.

They also hosted ‘The Big Lunch’ event, where residents gathered for shared food and connection, raising £205. These funds were split between Rampside Village Hall, which offers a welcoming space for residents, and Barnardo’s, which protects and supports vulnerable children.

Additionally, a quiz and bingo night raised £650, which was donated to CancerCare Barrow, a charity supporting adults and children affected by cancer, life-shortening illnesses, and bereavement.

Community Impact and Thanks

Kelly Lindley, funeral director at Co-op Funeralcare Barrow, expressed delight at the total raised, saying: “We are delighted to have raised such a large sum of money for Andy’s Man Club, Barnardo’s, Rampside Village Hall and CancerCare Barrow, helping the charities continue their essential work.”

She added: “Our work with the community goes beyond arranging funerals. We’re passionate about giving back and proud to support causes that make a real difference to local lives, just like these charities. We had a great time coming together with the community, but what made it even more rewarding was knowing we had raised money for such great charities. A big thank you to everyone who donated.”

The fundraising efforts underscore how local businesses can play a vital role in sustaining community networks, with the donations directly supporting mental health initiatives, community spaces, children’s services, and cancer care in the Barrow area.
