Sharee Hawrood, a 31-year-old mother of three from Bentley, stepped into the boxing ring to raise funds and awareness for the British Heart Foundation after losing her father Richard to a heart attack in October 2024 at age 53.
Ultra White Collar Boxing Event
The event took place at Doncaster Racecourse, where Sharee raised over £350. She trained for eight weeks at Doncaster Martial Arts Centre under coach Dan Evans. "The training was tough but so rewarding," she said. "I have done exercise-led boxing routines before, but this took it to a different level."
Personal Motivation
Sharee chose the nickname 'Mini Rico' after her father's nickname. Her walk-out music was 'C'est La Vie' by Stereophonics. She said, "My Dad was my everything. He was a big boxing fan - he would have loved seeing me in the ring."
On the night, Sharee lost by just two points in a close contest against her training partner. "It was really close. I perhaps didn't go as hard as I could have because I liked her. But I don't feel like I lost overall; I gained so much from it."
Community Support
Her mother Linda was her loudest supporter. The fundraising target was exceeded thanks to community generosity. Ultra Events has raised £44.5 million for charity, with nearly half a million raised in Doncaster alone. The next event in Doncaster is open for participants, with training starting later this year.
