Birmingham Creator Quits Australia for Family

A content creator from Birmingham has made the decision to leave her life in Australia and return to the UK, citing the irreplaceable value of family and home comforts. Ellie McClean, who relocated to Australia two and a half years ago and lived in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth, says that while she feels safer in Australia, nothing compares to being close to her loved ones.

Why Ellie Decided to Leave Australia

Ellie shared her decision on TikTok, saying, 'I am excited to leave Australia, I feel like it's so not normalised for people to want to leave.' She added that when she tells people she's leaving, they ask why, and she explained that she had to choose between the lifestyle and weather or her friends and family. For her, there was no competition.

Initially, Ellie thought she would stay in Australia forever. However, after more than two years, she began to miss the little things back home. 'After two and a half years of living here, what I've realised is that what means most to me is the little things,' she said. 'I've missed three years of birthdays, little celebrations, dog walks, cups of tea, Sunday roasts. You miss so much that you take for granted when you're at home. And you have to move away sometimes to realise what you've got.'

What Ellie Looks Forward to in Birmingham

Ellie expressed excitement about returning to England, saying she is ready for the cold weather, Percy Pigs, real fish and chips, English television, and hearing English accents. However, she admitted it will be difficult to leave behind aspects of Australian life, such as living close to the beach, kangaroos, palm trees, Chemist Warehouse, food courts, Yo-Chi, and the superior coffee.

'I don't know what I'm going to do with my free time because I feel like I spend so much at the beach,' she revealed.

Could She Return to Australia?

When asked if she might move back to Australia in the future, Ellie said, 'I'm travelling for six months before heading home indefinitely. I've got no plans to move back but I would 100 per cent recommend others to live there and try it out. It's been such an amazing experience living here but there's no place like home.'
