Birmingham Victim's Fund Reaches £20,000 Milestone

A crowdfunding campaign launched for a student who died after being hit by a car in Birmingham has surpassed £20,000 in donations. Anisha Chakraborty, 28, originally from India, sustained fatal injuries when she was struck by a black Audi RSQ8 on Dartmouth Middleway in Duddeston at approximately 2:30 AM on Saturday, May 30.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs. He has since been released on bail.

Remembered for Her Kindness

Loved ones said Anisha, who also worked part-time at Jimmy Spice's restaurant on Broad Street, would be remembered for her "kindness, warmth, and the positivity she brought into the lives of those around her."

Fundraiser for Repatriation

Anisha's restaurant manager, Shefali Karulkar, launched the GoFundMe campaign to repatriate her body and cover funeral expenses. The page states: "Anisha was an international student in the UK, full of hope and ambition for her future. She worked hard to build a life for herself abroad and was deeply loved by her family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her."

It continues: "This sudden loss has left her family devastated, and they are now facing an incredibly difficult time emotionally and financially. We are raising funds to provide financial support to Anisha’s family during this period of grief and to help ease the burden of immediate and ongoing expenses."

Police Appeal

West Midlands Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. A spokesperson said: "We are appealing for anyone who was in the area who may have witnessed the collision, or any drivers who may have dash cam footage, to get in touch with us."
