Bolton Team Raises Over £2,500 for Cancer Research

A team from an employment services centre in Bolton has raised thousands of pounds for cancer research by completing a challenging muddy obstacle course. The 'Ingeus & Friends' team, comprising employees, family, and friends, took on the five-kilometre dirty run at a popular park in Manchester, scrambling through deep mud and water obstacles in warm summer temperatures.

Team Effort and Fundraising Success

The event brought together people of all ages for a day of teamwork, determination, and fundraising. Participants crawled, climbed, and slid their way around the course to help beat the disease. While the obstacles provided plenty of entertainment, team members said the overwhelming sense of community was what made the day truly special. Runners encouraged one another at every stage while onlookers lined the route to cheer them on.

Jayne, who helped organise the team, said: "What started as a wild suggestion quickly gathered momentum. I couldn't believe how many people got behind it. Between the Ingeus team, past colleagues, family members and friends, 11 people signed up and, despite injuries, 10 completed the course."

She added: "The camaraderie from everyone taking part was something else. We originally set ourselves a fundraising target of £500 and, at the time of writing, we've raised over £2,500. That's an amazing achievement."

Team Reactions and Community Spirit

Team members were quick to share their reactions after crossing the finish line. Paula simply described the day as: "Muddy and proud!" Jack joked: "More wet than muddy. Needed more mud!" Yahya said: "Ohhhhh muddy! What a great experience, unbelievable. I would definitely do it again." Sam highlighted both the fun and fundraising aspects of the event: "It was really liberating – running, getting wet and muddy, laughing with family and friends, all while knowing it was for such a good cause. And let's be honest, it was cheaper than a spa!"

Impact on Cancer Research

The team's impressive achievement has helped raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK. The money will support clinical work to prevent, diagnose, and treat the disease across the country. Jayne continued: "It says a lot when every single person said they'd do it again. Raising over five times the original target is an outstanding achievement and a testament to the generosity of everyone who donated and supported the team along the way."
