Employees at Monmouthshire Building Society have embraced the festive season by contributing more than 200 toys and presents to a vital local Christmas gift appeal. The donations are destined for Monmouthshire Council's Children's Services department as part of its annual Christmas Wishes initiative.
Annual Appeal Brings Joy to Children in Care
Each year, Monmouthshire County Council calls upon local businesses and their teams to purchase additional gifts. These presents are then distributed to the local authority's looked-after children, ensuring they receive something special during the holiday period. The Building Society's staff have supported this appeal for many years, gathering hundreds of donations from their various offices and branches across South Wales.
The collection of over 200 gifts this year is seen as particularly crucial. Many children who will benefit have been impacted by the recent severe flooding in the region, making community support more important than ever.
Colleagues "Come Up Trumps" with Generosity
Stuart Clarke, the head of treasury at Monmouthshire Building Society, praised the ongoing generosity of his colleagues. "Every year, we ask our colleagues to dig deep and buy an extra present for these children, and every year they come up trumps," he said.
"We are always overwhelmed and delighted by the number of presents and the thought that goes into the gifts that are donated. Seeing our values in action in this way, with our colleagues giving back to the communities we serve, is very humbling and certainly gets you in the Christmas spirit," Clarke added.
Council Thanks Donors for Supporting Vulnerable Young People
Councillor Ian Chandler, Monmouthshire County Council's cabinet member for social care, safeguarding and accessible health services, expressed his gratitude for the substantial donation. "Thank you to all the staff at Monmouthshire Building Society," he stated.
"With your donations, we can ensure that Monmouthshire's most vulnerable children and young people are not forgotten this Christmas," Councillor Chandler emphasised, highlighting the direct impact of the charitable effort.
The donated gifts will be distributed by the Children's Services team to children of all ages who are in the council's care, bringing festive cheer to those who need it most.
