Calverton Team Enters Final Phase of Gruelling 130-Mile Charity Trek

A dedicated team from Calverton is now in the home stretch of an arduous 130-mile journey from Nottingham to London, undertaken to support families during their most challenging times. The group, representing The Little Ted Foundation, embarked from Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre on Easter Sunday, with their destination set as the internationally acclaimed Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Symbolic Route Honors a Young Life

The carefully selected route mirrors the difficult path many local families must travel when a child requires specialised, life-saving medical care. The foundation was established in memory of Ted, a baby who faced a rare and aggressive cancer diagnosis at just eight months old. Tragically, Ted passed away four years ago this April, at only 16 months of age, after receiving care at both Nottingham Children's Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

This 130-mile walk serves as a poignant tribute, connecting the two hospitals that provided Ted with critical treatment. By transforming their grief into positive action, Ted's family and the foundation ensure his legacy endures through essential support for other families navigating similar, heart-wrenching journeys.

Building on Past Success with Higher Stakes

This year's challenge follows the team's successful Three Peaks trek from the previous year, but the current endeavour involves greater distances and more ambitious goals. Trustee and participant Ash Meredith provided updates from the road, emphasising the emotional and physical demands of the trek.

"This walk is about more than the distance," Ash stated. "It's about honouring Ted's memory and turning love into action. It's about standing alongside families facing the unimaginable and reminding them they are not alone."

Fundraising Target and Community Impact

With approximately 100 miles already completed and only two days of walking remaining, the ten-person team is closing in on their most ambitious fundraising target to date: £10,000. Every penny raised will directly aid The Little Ted Foundation in offering crucial support to parents and siblings during their darkest moments.

The charity's work includes:

  • Providing respite breaks for families in crisis.
  • Assisting with the practicalities of bereavement.
  • Offering emotional and logistical support to those caring for seriously ill children.

As the team approaches the finish line in London, they are appealing to the Nottinghamshire community for support to help them reach their fundraising goal. The impact of this local charity resonates deeply across the region, offering a lifeline to those in need.
