Cyclist Conquers Century Ride for Diabetes Cause
A determined cyclist from Ceredigion has successfully completed a massive 100-mile sponsored cycle across the county, raising significant funds for diabetes care. Keith Henson undertook this impressive challenge during July to mark four decades of living with Type 1 diabetes while simultaneously giving back to the dedicated diabetic nurses at Hywel Dda University Health Board.
Community Support Fuels Epic Journey
Keith wasn't alone in his endeavour, being joined by friends and family for the sponsored trip that stretched from Borth to Genarth. The cycling route was strategically planned to pass most medical surgeries along the way, creating awareness throughout the community. Throughout their journey, the cyclists visited numerous villages and towns including:
- Aberystwyth
- Tregaron
- Lampeter
- Aberaeron
- New Quay
The riders made regular stops to refuel with food provided by friends, family, and the supportive staff at Tanyfron Dispensary in Aberaeron, creating a true community effort.
Celebrating Success and Future Impact
Thanks to Keith's extraordinary effort and the community's generous support, he managed to raise more than £1,600 for the diabetes service. Reflecting on his achievement, Keith described the 100-mile journey from Porth to Genarth and the 66-mile stretch from Aberystwyth to Genarth as "a great challenge." He noted that fortunately, "the weather was fine and it was an enjoyable ride in good conditions."
Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, expressed profound gratitude: "We would like to thank Keith very much for taking on such an epic challenge to support the diabetes service. The support of our local communities enables us to provide services beyond what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive."
Keith extended his own thanks to everyone who supported his endeavour, including friends, family, colleagues, fellow advisers, and the staff at Tanyfron surgery.
