Cricket players in Wrexham are preparing to walk out onto the pitch to raise vital funds for a local children's hospice. A team representing North Wales will take on a squad of South African players in a charity cricket match at Brymbo Cricket Club on August 30. Money raised from the friendly game will go directly to Hope House Tŷ Gobaith, which provides care for youngsters living with life-threatening conditions.
Match Details and Teams
The South African players will be looking to win back the trophy after the North Wales side took the win in 2025. Brymbo senior team captain Jason Underwood, who is South African himself, is leading the expat squad. Jason Underwood, Brymbo CC’s senior team captain and captain of the South African side, shared: “This year, we're delighted to be supporting Hope House & Ty Gobaith Children's Hospices. They are a charity that provides invaluable care and support to children living with life-threatening conditions and their families. On the pitch, there will be plenty to play for, and it promises to be another enjoyable and competitive match between two proud teams.”
Family-Friendly Event
Families can enjoy a free day out with a barbecue, a bar, a raffle, and plenty of children's activities alongside the sport. Hospice fundraiser Bethan Young will be attending the match to help share the charity's mission. Bethan Young, hospice fundraiser, commented: “What a great way to finish off the summer holidays! We are looking forward to being there and enjoying the sportsmanship whilst sharing our mission to provide nursing care, respite stays and family support to those who need us locally. Good luck to both the teams and thank you so much for choosing Hope House Tŷ Gobaith.”
