Charity Padel Tournament Raises £1,590 for Disabled Children

With the Sunshine Run 5k on Newcastle Quayside just days away, organisers took a brief break from preparations to enjoy a charity padel tournament at Project Padel in Benton, hosted by local conveyancing firm Progressive Legal Solutions (PLS).

Corporate Support for Local Charity

Commercial director Shaun Cannell, a long-time supporter of the Sunshine Fund, teamed up with account manager Rob Matthewson to arrange the event. Teams from various financial firms in the region competed, with 100% of ticket sales going directly to the charity. PLS also provided prizes for the winners, a raffle with exclusive experiences, goodie bags filled with refreshments, and post-match pizza from Slab Shop.

Winners and Contributions

The winning team from First Mortgage received t-shirts donated by Project Padel, who also contributed items to the goodie bags. The event raised an impressive £1,590, which will fund specialist and adapted equipment for children living with disabilities, additional needs, and terminal illnesses in the region. Such equipment, often unavailable through the NHS, can dramatically improve daily life.

Impact on the Community

As a small charity without statutory funding, the Sunshine Fund relies entirely on donations and DIY fundraising from individuals and companies like PLS. The funds raised help remove barriers to independence, dignity, and full participation for disabled children in the North East. The charity's mission is to ensure all children with special educational needs and complex medical conditions can access the specialist equipment, support, and opportunities they need for a fulfilling childhood.

How to Get Involved

Readers can support the Sunshine Fund by following them on social media (@sunshinefund on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) and engaging with posts to increase reach. Attending events, such as the upcoming Question of Sport black-tie quiz and dinner in November, is another way to help. Sponsorship opportunities are available, and the charity always welcomes donated prizes for raffles. Those interested in hosting their own fundraiser can email hello@thesunshinefund.org for more information.
