Second year Events Management students at the University of Chester have raised hundreds of pounds for worthy causes through bingo, bouquets and painting. Working in teams, the creative undergraduates planned and hosted a variety of unique fundraising events across the city centre. Their efforts managed to raise money for several important charities, including RASASC, the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, and Diabetes UK.
Paint and Sip Event Raises £719 for RASASC
Abi Cuzziol, Asher Morris, Orla Molloy and Samantha Oakley created a musical vibe amongst Cestrians by planning and hosting a unique paint and sip event at city centre bar Popcorn, using vintage vinyls as their canvases. The event, which included a raffle featuring prizes from local businesses including Popcorn and Chester Student Lets, raised funds for RASASC, a rape and sexual abuse support charity which operates in Chester and Merseyside.
Event leader Samantha Oakley said: "We couldn’t be prouder to raise £719.22 for such an important charity. All of us from the group would like to say a huge thank you to the other team members, volunteers, sponsors and attendees who helped the event become a huge success."
Bingo Night Supports Hospice of the Good Shepherd
Also at Popcorn, Bella Radburn, Ella Smith, Rukshini Raveendranathan and Eleni Hobson held a bingo night in aid of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd. Eleni Hobson commented: "Seeing so many people come along, enjoy themselves and support such an important local charity made all the hard work worthwhile. Raising £493.99 for The Hospice of the Good Shepherd is an amazing result, and we would like to thank everyone who attended, donated and helped make the evening such a success."
Popcorn’s assistant manager Matt Read praised the fundraising teams for their professionalism and commitment to delivering a positive customer experience.
Bouquet-Making Workshop Raises £308 for Diabetes UK
Elsewhere in Chester, Natasha Leather, Imogen Barrett-Kelly, Heather Robinson and Jade Goulding harnessed their green fingers by organising a florist-led, bouquet-making workshop at Palm Cocktail Bar and Eatery in Chester. The flowers and expert tuition in making the bouquets were kindly provided by Purely Pots at Chester Market.
Imogen Barrett-Kelly added: "With the help of our generous guests, our lovely florist host, and donations from local businesses for raffle prizes, we were able to raise £308.17 for Diabetes UK." Natasha Leather continued, explaining that the team was "overjoyed with the sheer amount of support" throughout the event.
Dr Iris Sheungting Lo, course lead for the University of Chester’s Event Management programme, stated how proud she and other course tutors were of the groups’ efforts in raising essential funds for good causes.
